AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS

Chief Minister's Message for Century House Montessori School, B.V.I.
5th Anniversary

Congratulations to the Principal, Staff, Students and parents on your 5th Anniversary.

This yearbook will be a memento for everyone, but it also represents the progress you have made since your establishment in 1998. Future student bodies can also use this yearbook as a reference for your school's history.

The offering of the Montessori curriculum in the BVI offers residents additional choices for their children's education. As a Government we need partners in education and it is good to know that the partnership is strengthened by private sector involvement.

The diversity you offer your students through your teaching methods can only help to broaden their horizons and reinforce the principles being taught. Your school's history is one of which you should all be proud as you started from humble beginnings and have now grown to a level where you are being internationally recognized as a top school and with a highly qualified principal. We all know that greatness is born out of small beginnings and your school certainly reflects this.

Again congratulations on your 5th anniversary and behalf of my government and the people of the BVI, I wish your institution more successful years to come.

Dr. Orlando Smith
Chief Minister

To all my friends at Century House Montessori:

Another year is ending, and with it, each of you has grown a little bit older and hopefully a little bit wiser. The experiences of every year in our lives are precious. They can never be captured, only remembered. Our lives are made up of millions and millions of memories.

This year Century House celebrates its fifth anniversary which make this yearbook a special volume, collecting many memories together to keep them safe for all the years to come. From my own years as a Montessori student, I find that my friends and the experiences that we shared are even more important to me now, years later. I hope that you will think back on Century House and your years together up on that lovely hillside with the same warmth and affection.

Century House is very different from any other school in the BVI. That difference isn't just the beautiful look and feel of your campus, although this is certainly one thing that makes you special.

What makes you different stems from two simple ideas that are so rarely put into practice at other schools: that children deserve to be treated with the same kindness and respect that you would give an adult, and that most children have within them a potential for greatness and genius, and not just the special few.

After only five years, there is a sense of tradition at Century House that I've rarely found in any but the most established schools. You share a sense of continuity and community that are rare in many schools today. You have built a place where people really care about one another.

Century House is like a family of children and adults. As time passes, the family circle grows wider and more close times are shared with one another. When a close family gathers together for any special occasion, it becomes a celebration of life itself. This yearbook, which you have all helped to create, is a celebration of the times that you have shared one another.

Each time I have visited I have grown more amazed and impressed with the value of what you are creating for the children of Tortola. I feel at home here, and send my warmest regards and best wishes on this important anniversary.

Fondly,

Tim Seldin
Executive Director
